About The Program
To address the problems of unemployment and under-employment, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is encouraging Tibetans in micro-enterprise development to convert Tibetans from “job seekers” to “job creators.”

From TIBET’S STATELESS NATIONALS II: TIBETAN REFUGEES IN INDIA.A report by TIBET JUSTICE CENTER, September 2011

The USAID funded program called Economic Development of Tibetan Settlements (EDOTS) in India and Nepal aims to improve the economic status of Tibetan settlements through a range of special projects focused on developing organic farming, Tibetan artisanship, training youth with employable skills and promoting Tibetan businesses and enterprise, and so on. Different projects under EDOTS are taking place this year and they are being implemented by TechnoServe* with the support of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). By improving livelihood opportunities within Tibetan settlements it is hoped that Tibetan youth find enough options to stay on, and this would ensure Tibetan identity, and cultural and linguistic traditions are passed on through the generations.

Empowering Tibetan Businesses (ETB) is an important project within the EDOTS umbrella, and it aims to equip Tibetans with professional business management skills so they are able to grow their businesses and create both wealth and employment opportunities for Tibetans in the settlements. It is for all Tibetan men and women who have their own business and even those who have a good business idea. ETB comprises two special business training programs:

The Business Accelerator for those whose business is at least 3 years old and who want professional skills to grow it.

The Business Plan Competition for those who have just begun a business or have a great business idea with an ambition to make it big.
